Bone-Health-3

Calcium bioavailability: inulin content of Nutros® makes the difference!

Beyond adequate Calcium intake, Calcium bioavailability is also an important parameter to keep bones strong and healthy. Calcium is the most common and abundant mineral in the human body. It is a structural component of bones, teeth, and soft tissues and is essential for normal activity of heart, nerves, and muscles, but also for proper blood clotting.

Nutros® is not just a traditional Calcium/Vitamin D combination. Because bone is mainly built up with calcium for which deficiency is common, especially when people get older, one of the primary goal of Nutros® is to provide sufficient bioavailable calcium to the body to prevent bone fragility and susceptibility to fracture and decrease risk of osteoporosis. To improve calcium absorption, Nutros® combines Calcium (250mg/tablet) and Vitamin D (400 IU/tablet) with an additional substance called Inulin (500mg/tablet).

Inulin is a FOS (Fructo-oligosaccharide). It is extracted from chicory roots and is a non-toxic, non-caloric and nondigestible food ingredient with prebiotic properties. Inulin stimulates the growth of friendly bacteria in the digestive tract by providing a food source. It inhibits then the growth of harmful bacteria, supports the immune system and improves the absorption of certain nutrients including calcium. High doses of calcium are therefore not necessary when calcium is taken orally with inulin (4)(5).

What about Vitamin D and Silicon?

Vitamin D (400IU/tablet)

78% of the European population has low level of Vitamin D and even Vitamin D deficiency at the end of winter. Vitamin D is produced by the skin on exposure to natural sunlight, but not in sufficient quantity. Food sources of Vitamin D like egg yolk (rich in cholesterol), fatty and smoked fishes and cod liver oil are not sufficient sources too. However, vitamin D is essential for proper calcium transport in the body. Taking a specific form of vitamin D called cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) along with calcium helps prevent bone loss and bone breaks (2).

Silicon (5mg/tablet)

Silicon is involved in several physiological activities. It is essential for the normal growth, development, and integrity of bones, joints and connective tissue as well as for hair, skin, nails and cartilage. It has been demonstrated that silicon, taken in addition with calcium and vitamin D, regulates bone mineralization and has beneficial effects on bone health (3).

Why should you choose Nutros®?

First of all because its unique combination (Calcium, Vitamin D, Inulin and Silicon) ensures optimal calcium absorption. Secondly because, unlike others Calcium/Vitamin D products, which are often administered in unpleasant galenic form (chewable, suckable or effervescent tablets, powder…) and which most of the time taste like chalk, Nutros® is a small neutral tasting tablet, easy to swallow with a glass of water. Finally, because Nutros® is a very well tolerated product.

Who should take Nutros®?

Nutros® is formulated to help maintain healthy bones in men and women of all ages. It is recommended for everyone with low vitamin D levels and inadequate calcium intakes and more precisely for people who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis as well as for post menopausal women.
